Drill - Playing Out From The Back.
Organisation
Use half a 60 x 40 yard pitch
Set players and cones as above.
Aim
Play starts with 3 & 4 - pass & go. When players reach the 9 position, they dribble to the opposite groups starting position.
Instruction
Accurate passing.
Receiving player receives the ball on his front foot, knocking the ball out of his feet ready to pass the ball to the next player without delay.
Progressions
1. Player just about to receive the ball must make a movement forward, followed by a movement backwards - creating space to receive the ball.
2. Player can play the ball to any player in front of them so long as they follow the ball.
3. Before receiving the ball, the receiving player must call out the name of the player he intends passing to.
4. Player can play the ball to ANY player - forwards or backwards - so long as they follow the ball. When receiving the ball at 9 the player must join the other group. If at any stage there's no ball in a group, the next player in line can proceed.
5. When the ball is played into player 6/8, then an extra ball can be added into the group. No player can be in possession of more than one ball at a time.
