Organisation: 2 rectangular grids 15x5 Meters. Size to suit ability of group. Cones half way to represent a defender. All players have a ball. There is a 'defending cone' in the middle.
Instructions: Very short drill, designed to get lots of unopposed reps in before the next drill which introduces semi opposed defenders. Players dribble up towards middle cone like Messi, perform skill at the cone, accelerate away like Ronaldo. Repeat down the other side.
HOW WHEN WHERE WHY
The skills to be focused on are;
The Shoulder Feint - attacking move, most likley done in final half/third and going for goal or down the line to beat a defender and put in a cross.
Lean to one side dropping your shoulder
Plant the same side foot to the side of the ball
Take the ball away with the outside of the opposite foot
The Inside Outside - attacking move, most likley done in final half/third and going for goal or down the line to beat a defender and put in a cross.
Move the ball insdie using the inside of the foot
Plant the opposite foot as normal
Take the ball away in the opposite direction using the outside of the foot
The Scissors - attacking move, most likley done in final half/third and going for goal or down the line to beat a defender and put in a cross.
Move the foot around the front of the ball finishing on the outside of the ball
Drop the shoulder as the foot plants
Take the ball away using the outside of the opposite foot
Coaching Points:
1) Let them figure out the Messi/Ronaldo change.
2) If they don't, then try to illicit it.
3) As many touches as possible with messi dribbling, but still at pace.
4) Big explosive movement with Ronaldo dribble, head up now as more opportunity.
5) Avoid the defenders tackling radius.
6) Close the Door
7) Sell the Dummy

Coaching Points:
1) Very distinct change of pace at the defender.
2) As many touches as possible with messi dribbling, but still at pace.
3) Big explosive movement with Ronaldo dribble, head up now as more opportunity.
4) Close the Door.
5) Let the players figure out why they go into space. If they don't get it, try to illicit it from them and explain why. Which space they go into depends upon the movement, momentum and positioning of the defender, can they figure this out?
6) Any skill can be used, see if they can work out the appropriate ones.
Progression
Passive shadowing defenders and slowly introduce more active defenders.

Organization: Use the penalty box and goal. Lots of balls with the server. Cones as obstacles.
Instructions: Server plays ball in. Players on line sprint to get their first. First player there is attacker. Second is defender. Score. Switch lines. (variations are that the players are lying down/facing the wrong way etc)
If defender wins ball then he tries to score in mini goals within two touches (touch to set then shoot).
Coaching Points:
1) React instantly.
2) Be aware of your surroundings and where your opponent is in relation to both yourself and the ball. His positioning will determine whether or not you compete to win the ball first time or have to take up a defensive position.
3) When and where to perform particular skills.
4) Close the door if possible.
5) Correct shot selection based upon defender and goalkeepers positioning.
6) Follow in the rebound (automatically).
