Warm-up (15 mins)

Organization:

-Circle of cones, adjust it to amount of players.

-1 ball for each player outside of circle

Instructions:

-Player A attempts to pass & make contact with players with no ball.

-Once player is tagged by the ball, they must go & retrieve the ball outside of the circle & attempt to tag other players with the ball.

Coaching Points:

-Timing of pass.

-Head up

Progressions:

-Right/Left foot only

Warm-up II (15 mins)

Organization:

1. 4 - 10X6 yard area set up as shown.

2. 12 Players (Separate in teams of 3).

3. 16 cones.

4. 4 cones in straight line 2 yards apart.

5. 4 Soccer Balls.

Instructions:

1. Player 1 plays to player 2.

2. Player 2 has two touches, 1st touch takes player 2 into a new channel, player 2 plays player 1.

3. Player 1 moves to a new channel and players back to 2.

4. Speed should be high.

5. Keep track of successful passes through gates without hitting a cone or taking more than two touches.

Coaching Points:

1. Body is behind the ball.

2. Receiving foot (inside) is raised off the ground to cushion the middle of the ball, supporting foot is next to the ball.

3. Head up to observe ball, track ball all the way into receiving foot.

4. Contact ball - middle.

5. Contact foot - inside.

6. Ankle locked, toe pointed towards sky.

Progressions:

1. Receive ball with various parts of the foot.

Main Theme (15 mins)

Organization:

5v5 as above. Field marked with endlines.

Instructions:

Players throw the ball to one another and try to work the ball into the endzone for a point. If blues steal they go the other way. Players cannot run with the ball once they have caught it.

Coaching Points:

- Movement without the ball

- Connection and communication with teammates

- Speed of play

Progressions:

- Same game but ball can now not go above head height.

Main Theme II (20 mins)

Organization:

1. 40x30 yard area - two end zones 2x30 yards

2. 12 players - 6 attackers and 6 defenders (set up as shown)

3. 1 ball

Instructions:

1. 6 vs 4 in half on the field.

2. Team of 6 must pass or dribble into the end zone.

3. If defensive 4 win the ball, they must look to play their target player.

4. Opposing team cannot score until all 4 defenders are in the half, and have each touched the end-zone line.

Coaching Points:

1. Players on the inside should check at angles so that their body position is side on to play forward quickly.

2. Awareness - receiving player should check both shoulders before the ball arrive to assess options.

3. Inside players should look to be positive and create space in order to play forward.

4. Width and depth is important to create spaces as group.

5. Target players on the outside need to be aware which foot to pass into – high pressure front foot, low pressure back foot.

Progressions:

1. Two touch limit on the inside

2. Players on the inside can not pass backwards to target players only forward

Conditioned Game (25 mins)

Organization:

40 x 30 yard area set up as shown

10 players (2 teams of 5) set up as shown

9 balls (Additional around the outside)

Instructions:

Team score by knocking their opposition’s balls off the cones.

1st to knock down all 4 balls is the winner

Coaching Points:

Supporting foot is next to the ball, pointed at target

Ankle locked, toe up

Follow through towards target with striking foot remaining open throughout

Body weight over the ball
