Free Roam 2 v 1 (15 mins)

Warm up/Arrival Drill

Players are left with the decision whether they play wide or close together.

Set Up

2 x Mini Goals

Bag of balls

16 Small Cones

2 Big Cones

Conduct of Drill

To race to complete the shuttle run as soon as possible, collect the loose ball, utilising the extra attacker, take on the defender and score.

Attacker

1. 2 x Attackers must touch each cone but between each cone must return and touch the line (Shuttle Run).

2. Both Attackers must then run out to the wide cone, and must take on the defender.

3. (Attacker collects his ball and places it behind the coach, ready for it to be reused then rejoins his que.)

Progression

Attackers have to pass between the cones doing a series of 1-2's instead of shuttle running.

Wide 2 v 1 (20 mins)

Using Wide Options in a 2/3 v 1 Situation

Set up

2 x Wide Players

1 x Central Attacking Player

1 x Defender

1 x Goal Keeper

10 x Flatspots (To mark the shaded area)

1 x Ball

1 x Goal

Conduct of Drill

Attacking overload utilising wide players.

1. Central Striker starts with the ball and plays it out to either his left or right.

2. The Wide players are free to move up and down the hatched marking, they should be looking to get themselves into the best possible position to receive the ball and give it back for a scoring opportunity.

3. Central Striker can use either side or he could use them both, he is not limited to the amount he can use them. He needs to look for a position where he can receive the ball back from the wide attackers and get a shot off.

Progression

The winger that is not being used, can leave his area to give support, creating a 3 v 1. (2 Freeflowing Attackers, 1 Fixed Winger)

Set up

2 x Attackers

2 x Defender

1 x Goal Keeper

10 x Flatspots/Cones (To mark the boxes)

1 x Ball

1 x Goal

Conduct of Drill

1. The 2 attackers must get past the first defender.

2. Once they have got passed the first defender, they are to go to the end of the box and come back down the next box.

3. They are to now take on the 2nd defender infront of the goal and shoot.

Challenges

1. How quick can you complete the circuit?

2. How many goals can you score without losing the ball?
