Welsh Way Principles
Understand when and how to exploit a numerical advantage against the opposition.
Organisation
40 x 50 yard area
5v5 Players with 1 GK each team
Red Players are numbered 1-5, Blue Players are A-E
Explanation
Red (1) receives ball from coach and goes 1v1 with Blue GK. Then Blue are given a ball and are 2v1 Blue (A&B) v Red (1) who has recovered to defend.
As soon as the ball goes dead a ball is then fed to on of the Red Team (2or3) and this then becomes a 3v2, as they join the previous Red defender to attack.
Spare players the join practice and play resumes.
How
The coach will work with Red team only, where they will look to how they will utilise the numerical advantage when the 3v2 is presented. If the Blue team win the ball then they can attack with a 2v3 where the principle of creating and exploiting overloads can be followed (2v1) but will not be coached.
Challenges, Conditions & Targets
Players to be encouraged to be creative during the 1v1,2v1 and 3v2 situations.
Limit of 3 touches for attacking player and countdown on shooting to make practice as realistic as possible.
