BSC GKs 5.1 - Playing with the 6 and shot stopping from angles
Objectives:
- Have GKs recognize their arc and angles when saving balls
- Have GKs recognize angles when playing with the #6
- Good body shape when passing/accuracy of pass/weight of pass
- Finish saves
- Good set position before save is made
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
5 mannequins as shown, two goals working (first one then the other, or two separate stations depending on numbers)
Starts with a pass back through the mannequins from the 6. Next pass must go through a different split.
Keeper then rotates to make a save from either side. 3 reps then rotate clockwise.
Progression: Keeper plays 2 reps with the 6, then hits ground (pushup position) then has to recover to make the save from feeder (rotate clockwise) 3 reps each
Coaching points:
- Good angle with the #6, avoid vertical angles if possible
- Get set before the save
- Good set position and catching technique decision
- GK arc and angles after recovery

- All other goals worth 1
Progressions:
- Add another 2 in the middle
- Normal GK wars, must finish from your side in top half of the net

Core work warmup
Push up touch game
Small 3x3 area, all GKs in pushup position
Start with 1 touch, then progress to 2 touch
If a ball gets knocked off a corner cone, 2 pushups
After 10 touches, coach asks player to roll right or left to shift
Progression: Keep score. Each GK is trying to protect the space between their corners/balls on cones. Each time they are able to get the ball across other space/hit a ball off a cone, worth 1 point. Still rotate after 10-20 touches
Coaching points:
- quick hands, keep core tight
- Anticipate and react quickly
- Protect your space!
