Warm Up Race

Set up two lines approximately 12 yards apart. in the middle of these lines have two gates of different colours 2 yards wide as shown in the picture.

One player from each line runs into the middle and run on the spot (players should be pumping the arms to work on proper running technique), the coach then calls out a colour and the players race thru that color gate. When the coach calls out the color the next two players shoul make their way to the middle. You ca add activities for the players to do when they are in the middle (header, touch the ground, turn etc)

For an extra progression you can make it that if the coach yells 'blue' the players go to yellow and if he coach yells 'yellow' the players go to blue.

Warm up Race with 1v1

Same set up as original game but now in the two channels on the other side of the gates their is a ball for a 1v1. To start off with players can score in either goal.

After a few rotations have each team defend their side and attack the other teams goals. This will make it more game related. If blue gets to the ball first can red recover to a position to defend their goal rather than running at the ball.

Coerver 1v1 to Central Goals

Place two goals in the center of the field one facing in one direction and the other facing the opposite way. Divide your players in half and have them start opposite each other with one team with the balls. If you have pinnies have your players wear them for clarity. With the younger age groups have the coach play the ball across, with the older age groups have the players themselves play the ball. As the ball is going across the player closest to the coach (red) goes to try and defend the other team . The attackers (blue) can score in either of the goals. Once the ball goes out of bounds or in the goal the coaches plays the ball across to start the next 1v1 immediately.

If the defender wins the ball they can also score in either goal.

A2 D2

Attack Two, Defend Two

The Game: Start without balls as a tag game. Players play 1v1 with the red team attacking the blue teams gates. The red team starts the game as the blue team can not move until the red team does, this may need some coach encouragement but the idea is to get players to go as soon as the round before them ends. Can the red team run through the blue teams gates with out getting tagged. After a certain amount of time the blue team will attack the red teams gates. After a few rotations with each team having a few turns at attacking introduce the balls.

Same idea with the balls except the blue player is trying to win the ball rather than tag. If blue wins the ball he/she should immediately try to attack the red gates. If the ball goes out of bounds, the next pair of players should begin the exercise. Attackers must dribble the gates to score (take a touch on other side of the gate). Focus:

•The red attacker should “run at the defender” or dribble out to confront the red defender.

•Feint in a particular direction to force the defender to shift in one direction.

•Accelerate past the defender and dribble through a gate.

•BE CREATIVE!

•Transition quickly on loss of possession.
