SET UP

1. Ball starts with FB everytime in coned area on the half way line.

2. No.10 and No.8 make movements to receive ball in central area.

No.10 makes double movement, initially moving beyond manequin before checking back to receive ball with back to goal.

No.8 looks to move way from LB on ball before making double movement to check back and show for feet.

3. LB ignores pass sideways to No.8, instead playing direct into No.10 who sets 1st time with a bounce pass.

4. No.8 receives bounce on front foot and with no more than 2 touches on the ball, looks to play diagnol pass to opposite wide man in coned area. Drilled pass or floated pass.

5. LB as ball is played to opposite side, looks to make a forward run into box incase of any over hit crosses.

5. No.10 after bounce pass looks to spin and get into box, attacking back post.

5. No.8 proceeds after playing diagnol pass into box and looks to get on the end of cross at the front post after crossing over with No.10.

6. Players movement on edge of box is key to manipulate any defenders, causing confusion and being hard to mark.

7. RW looks to deliver ball via a low and hard cut back to the front post.

8. No.8 to strike first time.

9. LB stays in corner box.

9. No.10 & No.8 jog back around pitch to start

9v9 Game Related Practice (20 mins)

The Session:

The reds are attempting to break down the blues, specifically through wide area.

Can the reds expose the blues in 1v1 situations out wide, or create 2v1 overloads in wide areas.

If the blues win the ball they aim to score in one of the small goals.

Key Points:

Can we get the ball wide early?

Make the wide players aware of the types of crosses, or ways they can create chances from out wide. i.e. cut back, cross from deep, running to the byline before crossing.

What type of runs can the wide player make? Arrive late - top of the box, back post, flash across the six yard box.

Timing of runs from the full back on an overlap. Strikers making runs for crosses. Midfielders arriving late into the box.

Types of combinations i.e. overlapping runs, underlapping runs, support from behind.

Can you beat someobdy 1v1 to create a chance? Can you cut inside and have a shot?

Varied movement of attacking players - if the wide player tucks inside, the full back, striker or one of the midfield three may provide the width instead.
