SAQ | Dribbling | Learn (20 mins)

Set Up

* Diagram represents progression. Start without ball 1-3 | Add ball A-C

- Dribbling cones one step apart

- Fake left cones 5 steps from dribbling cones

- Create lines according to amount of players

- Roughly 3 per line

Instructions

Without Ball 

1) Jump in between cones with right foot.

- Land in bend and pause (Bend meaning bend your knees to increase balance)

- Sprint with left foot driving over last cone after jumps
- Fake left go right at two diagonal cones to practice fakes

* Repeat with left foot
* Fake right go left at two diagonal cones to practice fakes

- Players walk back to regain energy

2) Move right foot in and out of ladders as you move down the ladder x2 right foot - x2 left foot.

- Fake left go right at two diagonal cones to practice fakes

* Repeat with left foot
* Fake right go left at two diagonal cones to practice fakes

- Players walk back to regain energy

3) Shuffle through cones, two feet in between cones, push off with your right foot and come back through diagonally, two feet to the left inside cones, push off diagonally with your left foot and repeat

- Fake left go right at two diagonal cones to practice fakes

* Repeat with left foot
* Fake right go left at two diagonal cones to practice fakes

- Players walk back to regain energy

With Ball

A) Dribble through cones with both feet 

- Fake left go right at two diagonal cones to practice fakes

- Players walk back to regain energy

- take a big touch to cone 5 yards away and run with the ball

B) Dribble strong foot only - take a big touch to cone 5 yards away and run with the ball

- Fake left go right at two diagonal cones to practice fakes

- Players walk back to regain energy

- take a big touch to cone 5 yards away and run with the ball

C) Dribble Inside Outside (Inside left foot, outside right foot, inside right foot, outside left foot - take a big touch to cone 5 yards away and run with the ball 

- Fake left go right at two diagonal cones to practice fakes

- Players walk back to regain energy

- take a big touch to cone 5 yards away and run with the ball

Coaching Points:

- Dribbling is opposites - body diagonally left of the ball > ball goes diagonally right - body left of the ball > ball goes right

- Play in bend (Bend meaning bend, your knees to increase balance)

- Draw a line with the middle of your foot to the target to run with the ball

Technique - Passing (15 mins)

Set Up:

3x3 squares and balls

Instructions:

- Groups of three (One player working in the box, one player feeding balls in, Last player behind the box providing numbers for a shoulder check)

All Progressions are done with players in the middle of the box

1) Alternating one touch passes right and left foot, first team to have all players complete six passes- Once player one gets to six the next player comes in and does six passes.

Progression

2) Server and the player working play one touch passes. The goal is to pass the ball on the outside of each of the front cones three times. The player must bounce the ball with their lead foot as they travel through the middle of the square (Planted foot to the target, foot at 90 degrees, stay in bend)

3) Server and player working play one touch. The working player bounces with their furthest foot from the front left cone, bounces with right foot in the middle, diagonal side shuffle behind the back left cone to take a touch outside the square, then passes the ball to the server who shows outside the square for a bounce pass, then working player plays the ball back into the square to repeat the action one more time. After two actions players rotate.

Coaching Points:

- Open foot to 90 degrees

- Planted foot to the target

- Receive with lead foot

- Body shape like a bench, (Open up to bounce the ball diagonally past the back cones)

- Shoulder Check

Shooting - Technique (20 mins)

Set up:

Cones 5 yards apart

Cones in net one yard from post

Instructions

Learn

Start 5 yards from goal and have players roll the ball out of their feet and practice shooting ball in between cones and net with proper technique. 

Repeat

- Passing combinations followed by dribbling to manequin

1) Shoot inside the foot to score between cones near post (inside foot) 

2) Shoot with laces to score between cones at far post 

Apply

Timed games 3 mins to score as many goals as possible

* Kings/Queens court with three teams

* Full rotation with four teams

* Waiting team collects balls  

Coaching Points

- Passing: Inside foot, locked ankle, pass to correct foot, draw a line with the middle of your foot

- Receive: Inside foot, open up on lead foot, draw a line with the middle of your foot

Inside - Open up foot to L shape, momentum towards the target, planted foot to the target, eyes on the ball, draw a line from middle of your foot to target

Laces - Lock ankles, Keep toe down, Leg should end up across the body, momentum needs to land towards the target, plant foot to target, keep eyes on the ball, draw a line from tongue of your shoe to the target

Value - Courage, players need to be empowered to shoot to score rather than shooting not to miss. Half the battle of shooting is belief, the other half technique.
