Agility Square

Organisation

  • Two players per square, one player is number 1, the other is number 2
  • To start with number 2 will be chasing number 1 around the square. Neither player can go inside the square, only along the perimeter
  • Number 1 needs to be agile and quick to avoid number 2. Each time number 1 gets tagged they reset and go again. Number gets a point each time he tags
  • Swap over to allow number 1 to chase number 2
  • The player who gets the most points wins!
Swap pairs over after a few rounds

4v4 Score or Dribble (Whole)

Organisation:

  • Two mini goals on either end with two gates on either side of each mini goal
  • Players get 1 point for scoring in the mini goal or 2 points for dribbling through either gate
Progressions:
  • This should initially start off as a 2v2 exercise so there can be a focus also on our two core moves (wall pass and overlap)
  • Progress then into a 4v4 (or 3v3/5v5 depending on numbers)
  • This can be done as an overloaded practice (5v4 for example)
  • Award an extra point every time a player executes one of the block skill move successfully (step over, sole role, drag back, v cut)
  • Players can only enter the next third via dribbling

Agility Pair with Ball and Transition (Part)

Organisation

  • Same concept as the agility square warm up but this time with footballs!
  • Both players have a football each and number 1 looks to tag number 2 and vice versa

Progression

  • One the coaches call, both players looks to dribble through the square via the opposite side that they are currently on, and ensure they don't bump into one another
  • They must perform one of the block's skill moves before going across to the other side
  • The final progression is when the coach calls, the player that is currently chasing should look to defend against the opposite player who still is looking to dribble through the opposite side (chaser leaves his ball alone) - extra point if they do it with one of the skill moves!

Match with Dribbling Gates (Whole)

Organisation:

  • A game with one GK in the large goal, and two teams playing against each other
  • One team is scoring in the large goal, the others get one point for scoring in the mini goals, or three if being able to dribble through the gate
  • Generally start with the GK on the ball and ask two red defenders to split to receive the ball like above
  • Rotate teams which are scoring in the big goal
Progressions:
  • This can be done initially as on overloaded match (5v3) which may help get more success for the team with the GK
  • Progression would be to remove the two other mini goals and replace them with gates, still having 3 points to dribble through the centre gate, and 1 on the side gates
  • Award extra points for any of this blocks core moves or skill moves executed
