This is designed to give Jnr coaches some insight into setting up for defensive freekicks, as well as the GK and defenders responsibilities.
This is designed to encourage more airily dominate GKs , as it should allow GKs with more opportunities to deal with crosses. As the correct set up allows for the correct outcome.

Wide Set Pieces:
IMPORTANT FOR YOUNG GKs (U13s&14s)
Far too often in the Jnr Age groups, the 18 yard area gets bombarded with bodies on free kicks and GKs are not afforded any space to deal with crosses. It is essential that Jnr coaches assist the goalkeeper in allowing them opportunities to practice setting a defensive line.
Any FreeKick out side the green lines (In the shaded area) Should be considered as a crossing set piece.
The Goalkeeper should focus on setting a defensive line and protecting the space in which the ball could be crossed into, as the cross and header is more dangerous than a shot from a freekick taken from anywhere in the shaded area.
Any freekick WITHIN the green lines should be considered a shooting freekick and GKs should set their wall and get ready for a shot. The defensive line should be inline with the wall.

Wide Set Pieces:
IMPORTANT FOR YOUNG GKs (U13s&14s)
GK has to stand in a position in relation to the defensive line.(be connected)
If the GK (or defenders) are able to set a high line , it allows more space for the GK to come and collect cross.
Especially in Jnr football(13s & 14s) it is not fair to expect the goalkeeper to protect the whole goal based on their size and the size of the goal, therefore coaches should encourage their goalkeepers to start in a higher positions and deal with the cross. (As shots from these distances in Jnr football are also unlikely to result in goals as players will struggle to score from this far out)

Wide Set Pieces:
IMPORTANT FOR YOUNG GKs (U13s&14s)
For deeper and wider freekicks , the wall will set the defensive line and GK should use at least 2 players in the wall.
The space behind the defensive line is te space the GK has to come and collect the cross.
