1v1 to mini goals

Grid approximately 10*15

Play 1v1. Defending team starts by serving ball to opponents who tries to drbble through the gate (offset center). Defender should close downtry to win ball back and score in either counter gate. Roatate so that both groups of players defend and attack.

Coaching points:

- Close down while ball is travelling

- Close down quickly at an agle

- Pressure forcing one way to make play predictable

- eyes on ball

- angled stance, light on feet

- proper times of engagement (attaker big touch or mistake)

- engage the attackers body upon big touch (and step in between)

- angled approach to the ball to force dribbler wide/away from goal, footwork (shuffling at angle to keep it wide)

-3 good times to win the ball: 1. big touch 2. head down 3. back turned

2v2 to small goals (20 mins)

2v2 to small goals: Play 2v2 to 1 gate per team. Set up multiple fields so no player/s is

sitting out. After a set amount of time rotate the players so they are

facing a new team.

Coaching Points:

- Defender closest to ball applies pressure

- Second defender covers first defender (must explain and demonstrate cover to players because of their young age)

- Players should recognize when to switch from cover defender to pressure defender and vice versa

2v2 Plus Goalkeeper (Large Goals) - Roll to Initiate (25 mins)

Set up one field about 25 x 30 and separate the kids into two teams. Each team sets up at one end of the field in two lines (offthe field). Team A plays a ball in to team B and the first two players from each line play making a 2v2 game to large goals with goalkeepers.

Anytime a goal is scored, the ball goes out of bounds, or the game lasts longer than 30 seconds the players on the field go off to the outside and new players begin a new game. The transition should be quick. After 10-12 games,

make sure you switch so that both teams receive the ball to start.

Coaching Points:

- Defender closest to ball applies pressure

- Second defender covers first defender (must explain and demonstrate cover to players because of their young age)

- Players should recognize when to switch from cover defender to pressure defender and vice versa

- Must close down quickly or player will be able to shoot

Scrimmage 7v7 (15 mins)

Facilitate the game and help with positions, positioning, and game

format. Facilitate a basic scrimmage with a goalkeeper and six

field players. Allow the kids to “PLAY” but give guidance when

necessary. Use a “coaching in the game” approach to emphasize

the topics from todays training. Be sure to use the labeled names

for the positions!
