1. Activation (5 mins)

1v1 reaction activation drill.

Players pair up and face one direction each with a cone between them.

The coach will shout out either left, right or stay. If the coach shouts "left" the players will sprint to the line on the coaches left, with the opposite trying to recover and reach the "attacking" player.

Same goes for the "right" side.

If the coach shouts stay, the player will have to react and snap the cone first before their partner.

2. Rondo - Through Play (10 mins)

6v2 rondo with the aim to play through the defenders when the chance arises.

The purpose is to keep possession and to play the ball quickly dragging the defenders out of position and break their line.

The "attackers" want to keep the ball, but try to hit the flat on the way across to gain a point and break the defence's line.

This will instruct the defenders to defend together and do so in a narrow manner.

3. Wide Play - Pattern 1 (10 mins)

Attacking principles focusing on different patterns in which to attack, utilising the width to overload and transition an attack.

Every pattern starts from the defender, as a build-up play, the start of playing out from the back or the play has been recycled and reset.

The defender plays a pass into the midfielder's back foot.

The midfielder takes a positive touch forward/sideways and switches the play out wide to the winger.

The winger checks their shoulder to recognise the space before playing a pass backwards to the defender either on 1 or 2 touches.

The defender takes a positive touch forward and use their second touch to play a pass directly to the striker who will then release the striker with a curve pass around their shoulder.

As the defender plays the pass into the striker, the winger will make their movement to run onto the pass from the striker.

On the striker's touch, the midfielder will join in on the attack and be an option for the cut-back possibility from the winger.

The striker moves onto the attack as soon as they've passed, joining the box for a low or whipped cross.

4. Wide Play - Pattern 2 (10 mins)

Second pattern will start with the defender playing a sharp pass into the winger's back foot being able to take a positive touch forward or inwards.

When the winger has turned in control they will play a short pass to the striker.

The striker will play it backwards to the midfielder and set, for the midfielder to play a first time pass out wide for the winger to run on to.

As soon as the midfielder plays the pass, they will join the attack as well as the striker.

The winger will make their movement forward out wide on the striker's pass backwards.

Striker takes a touch to receive and plays a pass out to the winger on their second touch.

The winger will take a positive touch inwards and plays the midfielder with their second touch.

The midfielder will open their body and turn face forward with their first touch.

The winger will play a wall pass with the striker and get it back first time on the wingers run.

6. Wide Principles - SSG (15 mins)

5v5 + 4v4 game small-sided game with wide zones.

The wide zones are included to enforcing the wide players to stay wide and attacking using the wide areas to speed up the attack.

The condition with the wide zones is that only one player can enter, but they can only spend 3 seconds within the zone. This is to be able to use the extra space and be able to attack while stretching out the defence.

Condition will be to use a maximum of 3 touches, and challenge them to try and use 1 or 2 touches. This will be for every section except the final third, where the conditions are more flexible to allow to finish the attack.
