Instructions:

  • On arrival, 3v1 or 4v2 rondo depending on numbers.

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • Quality of passes between players on outside.
  • Reaction of players after playing a pass.
  • Recognition of when to switch ball v. double pass.

Main Activity (20 mins)

Organization:

  • Set up as shown above.

Instructions:

  • One team is trying to score in small nets for 1 point, 2 points getting over the line. Opposing team gets 1 point for getting over the line.

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • Who could we play to to make a switch in play easier/safer?

  • Where does one of our teammates need to be in order for us to switch?

  • Why is getting over the line in the middle worth more points?

  • When to go for the 1 point v. when to go for the 2 point?

Conditioned Game (30 mins)

Organization:

  • Set up as shown above.

Instructions:

  • 6v7 with blue team allowed to dribble in.
  • Every out will start from blue team.
  • 1 point for every shot taken inside box. 2 points for every goal scored. 3 points for goal scored inside box.
  • 1 point for red team if they get over opponent's white line.

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • What are options 1, 2 and 3 for us building up in the opponent's half?

  • Who could we play to to make a switch in play easier/safer?

  • When would be a correct moment for us to play a long switch?

  • Where does one of our teammates need to be in order for us to switch?

  • Why is switching the ball an effective way to create chances on goal?
