Description

Players will learn dribbling through fun and challenging envirionment which inspires their ability to learn.

Players will have a better grasp on using small touches and big touches at the right time. Players will be able to dribble at game speed.

Warm up (15 mins)

Organization: 30x30 yd area. 1 ball per player. Adjust space based on numbers.

Instructions: Freestyle dribbling. Start slow and move to faster (game speed) once comfortable.

Introduce on Progression 2- Every time your ball hits another player/ soccer ball or goes out of bounds, you count 1 point. Low score does the best.

Coaching Points:

(1). Smaller touches as the space becomes less

(2). Play with the laces of the foot closet to the ball

(3). Observation of when space starts to run out, start to take smaller touches

Progressions:

1. Freestyle dribbling.

2. Dribble laces.

3. Dribble inside-outside

4. Dribble small touches and then big touch into space on "GO".

Technical (20 mins)

Organization: Even lines. Ball and partner as shown. Adjust number of channels based on number of players.

Instructions: Player with ball dribbles across to opposite side and back, gives ball to partner.

Coaching Points:

(1). Fewest number of touches to cover the distance quickly

(3). Play with the laces of the foot closet to the ball

(4). Positive first touch out of the feet

(5). Head up after every touch

(6). Observation of when space starts to run out, start to take smaller touches

Semi-opposed- skunk relays (20 mins)

Organization: same as technical component. Now moving red team in 1 channel and blue in 1 channel.

Instructions: ON "GO"

(1). First player in each line runs to opposite side and back, gives ball to next player in line and sits down.

(2). Player dribbling must go all the way to opposite side and takeover must be at or after the starting line.

(3). First team sat down wins.

(4). In Progression 3- each team designates a skunk. Skunk holds 6 pinnes in hands and can spray them into the relay zone as they wish. Skunk cannot enter the zone until the round is over. If a player gets "tagged" by the skunk's spray (pinnie touches player/ball), they must go again as the last player.

Coaching Points:

(1). Positive first touch out of the feet

(2). Fewest number of touches to cover the distance quickly

(3). Awareness of where the pressure/threat is (in this instance the skunk and spray)

Progressions:

(1). Ball in hands. First team to have all players sat down win.

(2). Dribbling.

(3). 1 player from each team is designated as the skunk to try and delay opposing team.

Opposed- hungry skunk (20 mins)

Organization: same as skunk relays. Each player in line has a ball now.

Instructions: skunk can now come out of the woods looking for food (soccer ball) and returns to the woods after the player reaches the other side. When the coast is clear, player dribbles back to the end of their line. If the skunk takes the food, they put it in the woods. First team to have all balls taken for food loses.

Coaching Points:

(1). Where is the defender? How does that affect your dribble?

(2). Protect the ball.

Progressions:

(1). Switch skunks each round. Cannot steal back from skunk.

(2). Skunk is out of woods until player makes it there and back. You can win your ball back before skunk takes it to woods

Organization: 4v4. First team to score stays on and losing team goes off.

Coaching Points:

1. Location/ compactness of defense (Can we dribble to penetrate? Should we play around?).

2. Protect ball.

3. Speed of transition- dribble penetration.
