Objective Improve side moves to protect the ball.

Coaching Points Side moves to protect the ball, body between ball and opponent, low to ground, extend arm, accelerate after side move, RWB using furthest foot from opponent. Quality passing & receiving into space.
Interval Duration 4 min, change side (ball starts on other corner).

Players split into 2 groups and commence dribbling with the ball warming up.
Once the players have warmed up the coach will shout a colour, once the colour is called them players are to leave their ball and press and win the nearest oppostion to them. They are only allowed to win the ball from 1 player at the moment.
Once this has been practiced a number of times if a team mate has won a ball they can then join in to help isolate an opposing player. they cannot tackle
Progress from this to the players who have lost the ball can support and link up with the players still in possession of the ball.

Organisation
3V3 + 6. 3 blues & 3 reds inside 15x20 area with remaining players around outside. Reds are looking to protect the central space & at worst keep the opposition playing around or over them. Aim for blues, greens & blacks is to succesfully keep the ball using the 3 central players. Reds defend for 1-2 mins before changing with another team. Each team of 3 has opportunity to defend.
Possible progress
Adding transitions: If team that begin as defenders regain ball, they can play to outside player. The outside team that doesnt receive ball must rotate with them & enter then central area, still retaining ball with the outside. Other existing central team are now defenders looking to regain ball & play to outside. If ball is cleared but not passed succesfully to outside another ball is recycled in.

4v2 Rondo (5 mins)
Set Up: 12*12 grid. Supply of balls on the outside. Two set ups.
Players: 8 players per grid. 4 attackers along the outside. 2 defenders in the middle.
Description: Play 4v2 rondo. Rotate defenders every 2 minutes. Rotate attackers half way through.
Key Factors:
1. First defender - speed/angle of approach. Make play predictable. Proper body shape/balance.
2. Second defender - angle/distance of support. Play off the shoulder of the first defender.
3. Communication.
4. Decision making - who presses/who drops. Don't get split.
5. Arrive as the ball arrives.
6. Cues to press: bad touch, bad pass, bounce, indecision, etc.
Progression:
1. Add an attacker in the middle.
2. Allow outside attackers to enter the grid.
Questions: Who pressures the ball? Who offers support? What can I tell my teammate when supporting them? If first defender is beat, now what?
