Transition Game - Functional
Organization:
1 smaller possession area inside a bigger possession area
White team has 6 players (3 forwards, 2 midfield players and the right back)
Blue team plays with 7 players (3 defenders, 3 midfield players and a left back)
Instructions:
Phase 1 - 3 vs 2, 10 passess is a point (split's don't count as we want the defenders to just get after the ball) if blues win the ball they look to find team mates in bigger box
Phase 2 - 4 vs 3 (blue team) - 5 passess then the blue team looks to score in pug goals, if the white team win it they are looking to break out of box and go to goal
Phase 3 - 4 vs 3 (white team) - Once the white team wins the ball in phase 2 they look to break out by either:
- Finding the feet of one of the targets plays
- Passing out to a runner from phase 2
- Dribbling the ball out
The white team then has 10 seconds to then try and score. If they don't in the given amount of time then the play starts back at phase 1.
Coaching Points:
Phase 2 - Moment before the Moment (Out of possesion)
1. How do the white team defend?
2. Where and why? consider how they defender can help them to attack much more effectively
3. Position of the forward players to be able to effectively help the team in the transitional moment
Phase 3
1. How are we breaking out? (based upon where we recover the ball and the positioning of the defenders)
2. Who, Where, When and Why are they joining in?
Progressions:
Allowing recovery defender to get back
Allowing more than 1 white player to join in
Allowing more than 1 blue player to join in
