Passing Practice (10 mins)

Set Up: -

Set up two matching series of cones in diagonals from each other as pictured. The number of cones depends on the number of players but you always need one spare player on the first cone.

The Drill: -

- Starting the ball from the first cone, players have two touches to pass the pall along to the next cone in the sequence.

- After a player has passed the ball they do 3 suicide runs between the cone they started on and the next cone in the sequence, ultimately finishing up on the next cone in the sequence and following their pass.

- When the ball reaches the last cone, that player dribbles the ball back to the next player waiting on the first cone and the sequence begins again.

- Have two teams doing this at the same time, the first team to get through a full rotation twice wins, the losing team performs a forfeit. (Burpies, push ups etc).

Coaching Points:

- Good firm passes.

- Passing to the back foot to allow team mate to turn and play easier.

- Communication.

- Using both feet to control and to pass the ball.

CHASE THE RONDO!

 Set Up:

- Set out 6 Rondo squares as pictured.

- Start two teams in opposite corners of the Rondo grid with one ball per team.

The Drill:

- Starting in opposite corners each team sends over 2 defenders to the opposite team to defend against their possession game.

- Once the coach starts the session the teams need to make 5 clean, uninterrupted passes before they can transition in a clockwise direction.

- To transition into the next square the team must keep possession of the ball while they transition. If the defenders stop the transition then the team goes back to the square they were just in.

- This continues until one team catches the other team. The team that is caught does a forfeit. (The team in possession in the losing square and their defenders from the winning square).

Coaching Points:

- Firm passes.

- Communication.

- Movement off the ball to create passing options.

- Try to avoid stopping the ball. (Take a touch in the direction you are looking to pass rather than stop the ball dead).

- Scan for space and passing opportunities before you receive the ball.

- Play away from defensive pressure.

4v4+3

 Set Up:

- Mark out a pitch with 2 smaller end zones and a larger central zone as pictured (size depends on numbers).

- 1 Ball in play plus the coach on the side line with spares to keep intensity high.

The Drill:

- The ball starts with one of the players in the end zone who passes into one of the teams to start the drill.

- The team in possession aim to move the ball from the first player in the end zone to the player in the opposite end zone in controlled possession.

- The team without the ball look to win possession back, they then try to play from end zone to end zone.

- The third player in the central zone plays for whichever team is in possession at the time creating a numerical advantage.

Coaching Points:

- Firm passes.

- Communication.

- Movement off the ball to create passing options.

- Passing to teammates back foot so they can turn and play forward.

- Playing away from defensive pressure.

- Utilise combination passing.
