Handling Box

SET UP

10x10 yard grid

2 balls

1 working goalkeeper + 2 servers (can be other goalkeepers)

ACTIVITY

Player A strikes shot at goalkeeper in center of the grid - focus on specific handling techniques (eg. scoop, front smother, basket catch, contour catch, collapsing dives, etc).

Working goalkeeper makes the saves and rolls the ball to an edge of the grid where there is no player.

After making save and distributing ball to "empty" section, goalkeeper saves same service type from Player B then rolls ball to area with no server. After intial shot as GK turns to face Player B, Player A runs to where first ball was distributed and prepares to serve again after GK saves from Player B.

Work in 1 minute intervals, create 1:2 work to rest ratio.

Change service types with each round.

Focus is not on speed but on correct technique. If GK technique begins to break down, lessen training time from 1 minute to :45 or :30 seconds.

Servers do not run through the grid, must run around cones to create more dynamic / fitness element to session.
