Football Problem: When our midfield players have possession moving into the front 3rd we are unable to successfully combine against an organised opponents.

Objective: In this session I aim to – improve the our possession in the front 3rd by creating successful combinations in central areas.
What: Unable to combine successfully
Who: #6,#8,#10,#9,#7,#11
Where: In the front 3rd central areas
When: Moving from the middle 3rd toward the 18 yard box
Why: Our #9, #11,#7 are not getting into a position to receive the ball from the midfield players.

Organisation:
-Grid 40m x 40m (May require another grid to cater for numbers)
-4 gates x 7m wide
-8 x green disks
-4 red disks
-3 set of bibs (4 of each colour, RED,BLUE,GREEN)
Explanation:
- 8v4 (GK becomes field player)
-Ball start with #6, creates a combination with RED team.
-Team in possession can use the bouncers on the sides.
-Swap team in posession every 3 mins.
-If the defenders win the ball they can score by stopping the ball on the BLUE line = 1 point, knock the ball off the marker = 2 points. (represents hitting there #11 or #7)
Step up/Step down:
-Size of area
-Limited touches
-Bouncers can't play the ball back to the same player.
Player Actions:
-Passing speed/ limit amount of passes across the grid. (Short or long accurate passes)
-Limited touches (3/2/1)
-Move into a position to face forward.
-Play what you see
-Look for the creative flick pass with the outside of the foot.
Coaching points:
-Make sure the ball arrive with the correct weight and speed.
-Focus on combining in the middle. #6,#8,#10,#7,#11 or #9
-Look to face forward where possible.
-Ensure players are communicating. (See/hear)

Team Task:
-Create combinations with extra players moving through central areas to overload our opponents defence.
Organisation:
-Half field
Explanation:
-Play starts from #6.
-RED look to get either #6 or #8 into front 3rd and combine with #11,#10, #9 or #7
-If Blue get the ball they have 10 secs to hit the coach.
Player Tasks:
#9 & #10
-Look to position yourself between the central defenders.
-Combine with #7 and #11 using a Killer pass
-Make lateral runs across the defensive line and take a defender with you.
-Drive into the box as soon as you can
#7 & #11
-When the #6 or #8 have the ball can you make the park as wide as possible.
-Create angled runs in behind the defenders
-Move to passing lanes and combine with #8,#6, #10 or #9

-Drive with the ball into the space with least amount of defenders.
- Isolate the defender by creating and overload 2v1 with either or #9 or #10.
-Look to create triangles, provide options left or right of the ball carrier.
-Look to tuck in behind the striker
Player Cues:
- When the #6 or #8 drive forward look to position yourself to receive the ball with back to goals
- As the ball is travelling, look to check off the marker and create more space to control the ball.
-When the midfielder continues there run forward, look to ark your run in behind the defenders.

Coaching cues:
-Make sure the ball is accurate and weighted correctly (must look like football) so the players are run onto the ball.
-Focus on #6 & #8 combining with either #7,#11,#9 & #10 to create an overload
-Attack space behind or inbetween defenders.
-Look to face forward where possible.
-Ensure players are communicating. (visual/hear)
-How can you help to create an overload in central areas?
-#6 & #8 If you have space in front of you, what should you do?
-#7 & 11 can you create space for the #9 & 10 to exploit?
-#10 How can you help to create an overload in central areas?
-We need combinations in the central areas to get behind their defensive lines.

Organisation:
-Half pitch 6 v 5
- 2 sets of small goals
- 3 teams of 5 + GK
Explanation:
-Play starts from Halfway.
-1 point for a goal.
Boundaries/Rules:
-Teams must maintain formation with a minimum of 2 lines.
-Once the shot has been taken the ball then starts with BLUE GK
-Offside applies. Spare player can run a flag

Organisation:
- 15m x 30m area with half way line (may require 3 grids based on numbers)
- 6 x disks per grid
-Large goals central
Explanation:
-Play starts with a pass from a player on the outside to combine with a team mate in the middle.
-All 3 players (#11,#8, #6) or ( #9,#10,#7) in the middle must touch the ball before playing a team on the outside.
-Outside player to receive the ball and swap with the centre player.
-Pattern continues. Intensity
Progression 1:
-Dynamics stretch for players on the outside
Progression 2:
-Passing squence from #6 to #9, Any combination inbetween but every player must touch the ball before hitting GK.
-Add passive defender.
-Players follow there pass.
- Once the ball is behind the defender, defender hands the bib to another player and moves to the #6 station and restarts play.
Progression 3:
-Additional defender can win the ball.
-Rotate defenders every couple of minutes.
