Warm Up (15 mins)

Description:

The first player from each group performs a forward roll, runs through the ladder using diagonal steps. Both players run around the cone and race to the ball. The first player to the ball aims to score in the goal. The other player becomes the defender (1v1 +GK).

Variations:

1. Introduce a second ball.

2. Substitute the forward roll with something else.

3. Use speed rings instead of ladders.

Instructions:

Line 2 passes to 1 then overlaps.

Plays a cut back cross into 1 or 3 who are running to front and back post.

Alternate sides

Coaching Points:

1. Angle of approach - off center

2. Head up to observe your target area

3. Head down at point of contact

4. Non kicking foot placed to side, slightly behind the ball

5. Contact ball - middle above the mid line

6. Pull hips around to face target at contact

7. Body weight forward chest and knee over the ball at contact

8. Follow through is controlled

Progressions:

P - Add one central defender

P - Add full back to crossing side

Conditioned Game (25 mins)

Organization:

2 goals set up as shown. One goal off center.

2 teams of 5 with 2 goalkeepers

Lots of balls.

Instructions:

Blue group A plays to B who sets back to A for a first time shot at goal

Red group A plays to B and sets back to A for breakway 1v1 with keeper

Teams play first to 5 goals

Coaching Points:

Observe target and GK

Angle of approach

Non-Kicking foot placement

Body weight learning forward (head, shoulders, hips then knee over ball)

Contact on ball, contact on foot

Follow through

Land on striking foot

Can you finish early?

Can you look to unbalance the GK and if so can you exploit by taking a bigger touch

Progressions:

Make individual competition (first to 10 goals)

Add defender from opposite line (Blue pressure in front) (Red pressure behind)
