Introduction to Passing and Receiving

Organization
- 1 5x15 grid next to a 15x15 grid
- 2 mini goals at end
- 1 mini goal at middle of 2 grids
Instruction
- Player A passes to Player B
- Player B receives, turns and tries to play it into the mini goal
- A goes to B and B gets ball and goes back to A line
- Play repeats on opposite side with Player C to work on both feet
Progression
1.
- Player A passes to Player B
- Player B receives pass and goes 1v1 at Player D
- B finishes on net
- A moves to B, B goes to A, D back to end on D line
- Play repeats with A and C on opposite side
- 3 minutes, then switch attacking and defending teams
2.
- Player A passes to Player B
- Player A runs to other side of mini goal and plays 2v1 with Player B against Player D
- Rotation stays the same
- 3 minutes then switch teams attacking and defending
- If defender wins ball, can score on the mini goal in front of them in the middle of the grid
Key Coaching Points
- Passes to feet
- Line up chest and hips
- Use inside of foot to pass and receive with 1st touch
- In progressions, tell player to turn when passing to them
- In 2v1 progresssion, find your open teammate with and inside of the foot pass

- Coach has soccer balls to kick in when out
- 25x25 yd grid
Instruction
- Teams play 5v5 or 6v6
- Teams try to score on the mini goals
- Must make 3 passes before scoring
Progression
- Must make 5 passes
Key Coaching Points
- Focus on inside of foot passing
- Receive with inside of foot 1st touch
- Try to create 2v1s on field
- Call name of player you are passing to

Warmup (10 mins)
Organization
- 10-12 players (5 one color and 5 in another color bibs)
- 20x20 yd grid
- One ball per pair
- Cones to mark gates to pass thru (7 or 8 gates)
Instruction
- Players start by simply passing backwards and forwards thru a gate to each other
- 2 touches
- Inside of the foot touches and passing
- 2 minutes, reps, try to beat number of passes on second reps
Progression
2.
- Red players pass to Blue and Blue players give it back to reds
- Reds then proceed to dribble to another gate where a blue player waits for them
- Reds then complete passing to them and then dribble again to another gate
- 1 minute repetitions, then switch
2.
- Blue players now become the runners and go and find reds with a ball to receive a pass and then pass back to reds and then go and find another gate
3.
- Red and blue partner up and start by passing an receiving on Coach's Go
- When coach blows whistle, reds dribble ball to different gate and blue follows them to that gate and they perform 2 passes between themselves
- Reds then dribble again to a different gate and repeat process
- How many gates can they get thru by passing in 1 minute
- Switch roles where blue now becomes leader or dribbler

- Step into pass
- Inside of foot passing
- Make sure chest and hips are facing the player you are passing to
- Plant foot pointed to the target
- When receiving the pass, be on our toes waiting for the ball
