Delay - can you slow down any immediate forward play?
Deny - how does your body shape prevent attacker playing forwards?
Deflect - block passes or look to win the ball.
when is the right time to step out and win the ball?
1st Defender:
- Put enough pressure on the ball to stop immediate forward play
- Recognise when to drop back in - you dont have to win the ball right away, if you can stop a forward pass, you have done your job, we dont want to lose our compact shape by chasing the ball
- Can you use te shape of your body to force the ball backwards ot sideways
2nd Defender:
-support 1st,
-Recognise where the ball is goig to be forced
-double up when you can and win ball back in yellow zone

- Be patient, dont have to win the ball, just preventing play forwards
