Defending Unit
- Players to move in relation to the ball
- Stay compact & Balanced
- When ball is with their Defenders should be positioned to deal with any long balls behind them & if the ball is played into the strikers feet.
If Ball is played into the wingers feet:-
- Nearest full back starts to engage & put pressure on ( try to prevent penetration )
- Defensive unit covers & slides accross giving balance - covering key central areas by man marking any players there ( Inside shoulder, touch tight )
- Attackers - nearest attacker try to put pressure on from the front if winger receives deep. If your full back does well and forces them back try to read the trigger & pressure the recycled ball.
If Ball is played long into attackers ( space or feet ):-
-Nearest player applys pressure, rest of the unit apply cover & balance covering key central areas by man marking any players there ( Inside shoulder, touch tight )
- Midfield unit - React & track runners, apply pressure on ball if player is delayed on the ball
- Attacking unit - also recover & track runners.
If Ball is played into a strikers feet:-
- Nearest player puts pressure on, 2nd cover, angles & distances
- Midfield - look for reaction, recover & apply pressure from the front.
- Attackers also react & recover.
GK - Communicate with the team giving them instructions to - Drop, Cover etc
- Keep the distance between yourself & the back line managable to sweep any long balls.
