warmup (10 mins)

Setup

Split gym in half

Split group into 2 or 3 equal groups depending on numbers

Number each player in each group 1 through 5. all players will start in one half of gym

Other half set up 3 rows of cones. Assign each group one row of cones

Activity:

Players are to dribble around the one half of the gym, avoiding players and keeping their ball close while executing various dribbling techniques i.e. pullbacks, stepovers, sole rolls etc... Coach will call out number one. the 3 players assigned number one will exit the group and ribble to the top of the cone, they will stop their bakll and execute whatever movement the coach dictates i.e. side shuffle, high knees etc... down the row of cones and back Players will collect and dribble back towards the group. As they are nearing the group they must call out to their next player i.e. #2 and exchange balls with that player who will repeat the exercise through the cones.

Make the warmup competitive. Repeat the activity with different movements through the cones.

Activity- 1v1 Dribble (15 mins)

Setup-Divide the playing area into a grid of 6 squares roughly 10x10 with a cone on each corner of each square.

2 players in each square with one ball.

Any extra players can be rotated in.

Activity:

One player is an attacker, the other a defender. Defender starts in the middle of the square, the attacker starts from any of the corner cones.

Objective- attacker will atempt to dribble to any of the other 3 cones other than the one they are starting from to earn a point. Defender will try and prevent that by winning the ball or kicking it out to earn a point.

If an attacker is successful. Reset with the defender in the middle and begin again. If defender is successful, reset with attacker on a corner with the ball and defender in the middle. Run drill for 2 minutes then switch roles.

Coaching points attackers:

Head up

Change of direction

Change of pace

Use both feet

tight controlled touches

Defenders:

Close down quickly,

cut off dribbling routes

defend side on on your toes for movement

Activity-Dribbling at pace (15 mins)

Setup:

Create 4 or 5 squares with cones roughly 6-7yds apart.

Ensure ample room between squares for safety.

3 players per square, each with a ball

Activity:

On coaches command, players will dribble around the outside of their square attempting to catch the player in front. Run the activity at pace for 1 minute

If a player is tagged from the player behind or loses control of their ball away from their square,

they will enter the middle of the square and alternate between 10 toe taps, and 10 bells until the next repetition.

Players earn a point for everytime they are able to catch player in front. Run eac group 3 times and then rotate one player from each group.

SSG-Futsal (20 mins)

Setup: use entire gym

Create a gate with cones on either end of the gym.

1 ball, 5v5

Activity:

Regular game play but no goalies.

To score ball must be played through your opponents gate.

1 point if it is passed through, 2 points if it's dribbled through
