Screen 1 (10 mins)

This session is designed to help players of 10 - 11 year olds.

This drill focuses on getting the ball out wide in game situations.

For this part of the session, the red team will have to pass the ball out wide into the goals, they have to do this while under pressure from the blue team. There will be a slight overload for the reds to help make it more match realistic as there will not always be the same amount of players on both teams in every phase of play.

If the red team scores in either goal they will get a point, this is to help them focus on passing the ball out wide into the correct areas.

The blue team have to defend the goals and try to win the ball back, if they win possession back, they can try to score into the goal, if they score they will get a point.

Interventions for this drill could include setting targets for a team or individuals. For example, a target for the red team could be they have to make 5 passes before they can score into a goal. It could also be for an individual, for example, when a player collects the ball for the red team, see if they are able to quickly switch the play to help open up the pitch and make more space for their team.

This drill can be done for 10 minutes, this is so that they can learn more match situations as the game will be played for longer meaning they will be put into more situations. This leads to them knowing how to cope with these situations in real matches as they will remember what they did in training and how they coped with this situation.

Screen 2 (10 mins)

For this drill, 2 players will start at the edge of the playing area. From there, players will pass out wide either to left or right. The players out wide will then dribble closer to the edge of the box, they will have two different areas they can dribble into, if they stop in the first area, the coross has to be looping cross into the box. If they choose to dribble to the furthest area, the cross has to be a low driven croos either into the box or s cutback to the edge of the box.The players who have passed the ball out wide will continue their run and then time their run and shoot at goal.

This is to help players focus on how playing out wide can help to create more opportunities which could then help prepare them better for certain games. As it will help to give them more ideas on ways that they can score.

This session can be progressed by the players in the middle shooting having to strike the ball first time instead of taking a touch, this is help teach them that they might not always have the time available to take a touch beofre taking a shot. This will help help to work on the control of the shot when taking a first time touch.

An intervention for this session could be to time the wingers, this is to stop them jogging or going at their own pace. Instead they are given a time limit or a certain amount of touches. This will help to make thus drill more realistic as they will not be able to jog in a match as they could potentially be under pressure from the defender.

After this, defenders can be introduced so that it becomes more realistic. To begin with, one of the pairs will take turns defending, so one player will be defending and the other player will be stood by the goal. These defenders will keep changing who is defending after each go. This can then eventually be progressed into a 2 v 2 or change it into groups of 3 and have 2 v 3.

This drill can be done for 5 - 10 minutes. Mainly so that they learn the basics of playing wide and why it can be so improtant in a match.

This drill focuses on playing out wide during a game.

The players who are out wide are not able to come into the middle of the pitch and the players who are in the middle can not go out wide. This session will be played like a normal game however the plays will have to pass out wide before they can score, this helps to include the wingers and pass out wide during a game.

This drill can be played for 15 minutes.

This session can include fly bys to the players out wide, this can be done by limiting the amount of touches that they can have or limiting the amount of touches the players in the middle can have.

In this part of the session, the players will play a normal match. However, if a team scores a goal where the assist comes from a wide position the goal will be worth 2 instead of 1 for a normal goal.

This session can be done to end the training session. This can be done for 15 - 20 minutes as a game for the players to have fun and have a competitive match.
