Dribble in a Box (5 mins)

Objective: To get maximum touches on the ball using all parts of the foot, practicing COD moves from last weeks session and allowing players to try new creative moves.

Organization: 20yd W x 30yd L field. Every player has a ball at thier feet. 1 minute rounds of players keeping track of their touches. Switch up rounds where they have to use one foot only, both feet, certain parts of the feet only and then end the round with players finding a goal to score on or a gate to dribble through with pace.

Key Words: Dribble, look up, shoot, COD (change of direction), COP (change of pace), shoot

Guided Questions: 1) How can you get more touches on the ball in a minute? 2) How can you see where other players are and where space is?

Answers: 1) Close and more controlled touches when around players. 2) Look up.

Notes: After each round challenge the players to beat their best. If they were able to beat it in the last round, what can we do differently this next round and show me.

Capture the Balls (15 mins)

Objective: To get players to be aggressive and COP to win and dribble as many soccer balls back to their home base as possible. To improve dribbling ability and control when sprinting with the ball.

Organization: 20yd W x 30yd L field with 3-4 home bases in the corners based off of how many teams you can evenly split up. When coach says go, players work together to steal and dribble back as many soccer balls to their base as possible. Players must use only their feet. Before the round is up, teams have the ability to steal soccer balls from other teams bases as well. 1 min rounds with a 30 sec rest in between.

Key Words: Dribble, look up, steal one, speed dribble, communicate/talk (amongst teammates)

Guided Questions: 1) When should you dribble with pace vs. dribble under control? 2) What can you do to try and steal from another team? 3) Who goes for the soccer balls int he middle of the field vs. the bases?

Answers: 1) Dribble with pace once you get the ball to get it to base quickly. Dribble under control when already being pressured by a defender. 2) Look up and see if a bases has soccer balls and no one keeping an eye on them. 3) Up to you and your teammate. Talk between the two/three of you to figure it out.

Notes: Make sure players are not sitting or guarding the soccer balls in the base. They can keep it on their foot to try and protect and manipulate the ball from defenders. Give the winning team a reward, (ex: get to pick a consequence for other teams such as star jumps or something goofy and fun.)

Football/Soccer Session Plan Drill (Colour): Crocs in the River

Crocs in the River (10 mins)

Organization:

All players start with their ball on one side.

Procedure:

The coaches (in black) start as crocs in the river. On the coach's command, the players will dribble their soccer ball across the river to the other side. If they dribble through the river and make it to the other endline they are safe, but if a croc gets their ball and kicks it off the field, the dribbler becomes a croc also.

Challenges:

Round 1: Coaches start as crocs and if ball is lost, the dribbler gets another try.

Round 2: Players start as crocs and if ball is lost, dribbler and croc switch rolls.

Round 3+: When ball is lost, dribbler becomes a croc also.

1v1 to Goal (15 mins)

Objective: To improve the players ability in both attacking and defending when in a 1v1 situation.

Organization: 10W yd x 15L yd field. Use both halves of the field if more players at practice. Try to keep lines short as possible to promote more playing time. Ball starts with one team. If a players scores, they stay on and become the new defender while a new attacking player joins the field. First to score wins their team a point. First to 5 points wins and then switch groups or sides.

Key Words: Dribble, shoot, Look up, COP, COD, take defender on

Guided Questions: 1) If you have the ball and are attacking, what are your options? 2) If defending, should you try to defender the player to win the ball or get in from of the goal to stop the shot? 3) Can you try moves when you have the ball to beat the defender and go to goal?

Answers: 1) Dribble under control to not lose the ball or dribble with COP and try a move to beat the defender and score. 2) Defend the player to try and win the ball. If you can defend the player and be in the way of the goal, even better. 3) Be creative and take a risk!

Notes: Promote the players to be creative and to take risks. This is a great time for them to attempt tricks or moves that they wouldn't do normally in a game. If they mess up, have them try it again even if the same outcome occurs. Build the confidence of the players on the ball as soon as possible.
