Edgemont Clinics U10-12 11/5: Penetration or possession? When and where
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Organization:
As above. See Fig 2. Teams play 4v4 + 3 nuetral players. Balls with coach. One nuetral player in the middle of the grid, the other two on either end. One team spread out around outside of grid like shown, defenders in the middle of the grid.
Instructions:
Coach plays a ball into the attacking team. They play 7v4 against the defenders. Each time the attackers are able to put 6 passes together, they get a point. Play for two minutes, then switch defenders and attackers. Team with the most points wins. Play multiple rounds.
Coaching Points:
* Eyes up play to know where the defenders and teammates are
* Using disguise to keep defenders guessing
* Quick movement off the ball to support teammates
* Looking for split passes in the defense
Progressions:
P1: After the defending team wins the ball, they become attackers to keep the ball and the former attackers become defenders. Play four minute games.
P2: Add additional ball into grid. Defenders must intercept both and pass to coach (who is moving around the grid) to switch to attacking
R1: Add a addtional nuetral player
R2: Increase size of the grid
R3: Defenders can only win the ball by intercepting a pass, not winning a tackle

* Can I get the ball back quickly?
* Eyes up soccer
* Penetration and possession are principles of play for scrimmage
Progressions:
