This basic 6v6+3 (or +4) is used with various, specific coaching points by Pep Guardiola and Thomas Tuchel amongst others to teach possession through positional discipline.
Organizational Objectives:
- Play inside-out and outside-in
- Cut off inside passing lines
- Pressure after losing the ball
- Play away from Pressure
- Compact inside after loss
- Adopt a comprehensive shape after recovering ball
- Come inside to play outside / come close to play away
- High work / show for ball
- Play faster when settled in possession.
When the ball goes out, coach plays one in to allow transition.
Depending on numbers you can have another team of 6 waiting on the side to sub in and out to control fatigue.
