Aim

To imrpove use of overarm passes during matches

Objectives

1 Break down overarm pass into parts to improve consistency

Provide drill with light pressure to add a game-like feel to using the pass

Focus conditioned game on use of long pass to force use during games

Technical Practice (10 mins)

Organizational / Instructions

Pair up one performer from each team

Face each other from opposite lines

Coaching Points

Stand side on with ball in throwing hand

Use free arm to aim towards your target

Throw the ball towards target while pivoting the hips to point forward

Push throwing arm forward after releasing the ball to point towards target

Progressions / Adaptations

Use right arm only for catching and throwing

Use left arm only to throw or catch

Increase distance between pairs

Time how many throws can be done in 1 minute

Drill change on other side of the pitch

Have the players set up evenly around the 4 cones

Game Related Practice (10 mins)

Organizational / Instructions

Set up 4 lanes of equal length

4 people to each lane

Coaching Points

Player in middle fakes one way then goes other

defender continues the first-way attacker goes

receive ball from first player

pivot then send to player 3 the ball

Progressions / Adaptations

Have defender follow attack closely to add pressure

Have defender closely follow attacker to force use of extra movement and communication.

Conditoned Game (10 mins)

Standard Handball ruling

2 thin lanes on either pitch side

Minimum of 5 passes before a goal is scored

If a successful pass from one lane across the pitch to the other is done, counts as 2 passes

Start with a slow jog 

Progressing into a walk with hands-on heads
