Drill 1 (5 mins)

Set up

  • Two cones (5m)
  • One server (5m)

Organisation


GK starts starts in the middle, moves sideways toward the cone on his left/right and catch the ball coming from the server (head height) using the W's technique, give it back to the server who stays in the middle then move sideways to the first cone and receive another football.

Coaching points

  • Work on Weight forwards with bent elbows
  • Work on quick movement (footwork)

Drill 2 (5 mins)

Set up

  • Two cones (5m)

Organisation


GK starts in the middle and moves sideways toward the cone on the his left/right and catch the ball coming from the server by performing the long barrier technique then travels sideways to the second cone and do the same

Coaching points

  • Work on keeping the eyes on the ball and knees bent while moving
  • Work on correct knees positioning (both legs to be making a wall against the ball, no heel
    should be pointing towards goal)

  • Key Factors

    • Get sideways to the ball and kneel, creating a barrier
      with no gap between your knee and heel
    • Little fingers together

Drill 3 (5 mins)

Set up

  • 2 servers 
  • 2 balls
  • Server n°1  5m from the goalie and n°2  1m 

Organisation


GK starts on his knees, server n°1 serve a ball head height to the Goalie who catch it using the W's technique then drop it and react to a non released shot (fake shot) from server n°2 by opening his leg as far as he can to block the ball. (Change working leg every 3 times)

  • Work on keeping the eyes on the ball and knees bent while moving
  • Work on correct knees positioning (both legs to be making a wall against the ball, no heel
    should be pointing towards goal)
  • Work on building confidence

Drill's 3 progression (5 mins)

Set up

  • 2 servers: n°1   5meters from the GK and n°2   3meters diagonal with the goalie aligned with one post as shown
  • 2 footballs, Server's n°2 football has to be a soft one

Organisation


GK starts on his knees and perform a diving to stop the low shot coming from server n°1, give it back to the server while he's on the floor then react quickly by getting up himself and running towards server n°2 for a recovery save to stop the shot by making himself as big as possible, can be a long barrier with hands open.

  • Work on chest and hands forward 
  • Work closing the angle and making the body as big as possible
  • Work on using the second leg to get up quickly
  • Work on building confidence

SSG's (20 mins)

Set up

Normal SSG with divided to 3 areas. central zone (20*15) and two boxes 

Instructions

Players stay in the central zone and try to make 3 passes in a row , once they make it the last player receiving the ball has to dribble pass the line and attack the opponent's end zone to score a goal.

First 5 min

Make the end zone small 5m and focus on Securing the ball

Second 5 min

Increase the area and make it 10m and work on blocking , encourage the players to take the shot 

Third 5 min

Make the box normal and allow two attacking players to attack with one defender 

Two attacking players must be the last players to receive the third pass and the player making the pass

Defender must be the closest player 

Work on Delaying

Last 5 min

  • Work on Angle/speed of approach ( body going down as long as you get closer to the ball)
  • Work on making your body as big as possible
  • Work on decision making (Securing, Blocking, Delaying)
