9v6 Build to Double Goals (12U DA)

Instructions:

  • Dimensions dependant on age and ability of players. 30x40 to begin with however adjustable of too easy/difficult. ‘End Zone’ line approx 10yrds from attacking goal line. 4 small sided goals used, 2 in wide areas of each half.

  • 9 Attackers vs 6 Defenders. Play begins with an 8v4 in first 2 thirds of the play. Objective of the attacking team is work ball up to striker in endzone and score into either goal. 2 players from attacking team can go in to the ‘end zone’ to support play and can also score.

  • Defending team attempt to win ball and score into opposite 2 goals. 2 Defenders must stay in ‘End-Zone’.

Progressions:

  • Attacking team must complete 3 passes before penetrating to striker (concept to be patient and work the opportunity to go through striker).

  • Play does not need to go through the striker but can have recovering defender into ‘end zone’. (Concept to increase decision making of defenders in ‘end-zone’ and in turn the movement of the striker.

  • Reduce to 1 touch in ‘end-zone’ and 2 touch everywhere else.

Attacking coaching points:

  • Quick control of the ball with an awareness of teammates and opponents around you.

  • Keep the balance between your teammates and do not fill the same spaces they do.

  • Move the ball efficiently (quickly and accurately) and take opportunities to penetrate opponents lines where possible.

  • Support the receiving player on the ball with good timing of run (not ahead or far behind the ball).

  • Look and think beyond the first pass.

Defending coaching points:

  • Keep the ball on one side of the field and minimise options for opponents to switch.

  • Communicate with each other on who should press, cover the split pass and get ready to press the next pass.

  • Win the ball when the opportunity presents itself.
