Shuttles (receiving) (20 mins)

Set up multiple shuttles. Should have 4-5 players per group but no more.

Player A leads through the middle cones and receives a pass from player B. Player A practices different types of receptions and then turns and passes to player C who is waiting in the line player A came from. Player B then leads through the cones and Player C passes them a ball and they perform the same skill, then passing back to player D. All players stay on their same side instead of following to the other line.

Types of receptions to practice:
1. moving forwards (no stopping and waiting for the ball)

2. curl right

3. curl left

4. run through cones and receive forehand moving forward (see the second drawing)

5. run through cones and receive forehand moving forward

6. slip trap left (like a left foot pivot - 3rd drawing)

---

older groups only:

7. slip trap right (backhand)

8. ramp over cones forehand

9. ramp over cones backhand

Mirroring (15 mins)

Start with sticks but no ball. Progress to lead player having a ball once footwork is mastered.

Player A leads and player B mirrors.

Focus is on defensive footwork. Ask player A to start slow so that player B can work on proper technique.

Footworks should be either sideshuffles or crossovers (in front only). One foot in front of the other, trying to force player A one way or the other. Player B needs to stay between player A and the endline.

*Make sure to maintain distance between players. Normal distance is a stick length + a step which is further than most players expect. COVID distance will have to be further but it will hopefully help teach players to maintain proper distance normally.

Piggy in the middle 2 (25 mins)

3 teams. the middle team defends the yellow space. The two outside teams are working together to pass through the middle. They can pass amongst their own players too, but need to try to get it across the yellow box to get a point.

If the middle team intercepts the pass, they take the place of the team they intercepted from.

Make it a competition:
The team that sends a successful pass across gets the point. First team to 5 points wins

passing + leading (20 mins)

Player A starts with the ball and passes to Player B who then passes to Player C. While that is happening, player A loops around the far cone and receive the ball from C. Next person in line passes to the opposite side and performs the same lead on the other side.

Rotation: A > B > C

***Focus on timing of lead, not too early not too late. Sharp distinct movements.
