Receive, Turn, Pass and Switch Play Possession Game (20 mins)

Receive, Turn, Pass and Switch Play Possession Game (Morris)

- Turn and pass in linited space and time with switching play

- Area 30 x 30 yard

- 8 v 4 situation

- 7 red players take up positions outside of the playing area and 1 Red player is positioned inside the smaller centre square.

- The Red players (in possession) aim to retain the ball and find a way to pass the ball to the player inside the centre square.

- The player inside has to turn and pass using only 2 touches.

- The outside players can move from side to side in order to find an available passing lane to pass the ball to the player in the centre square.

- The red players score a point if they complete 15 consecutive passes or if they manage to pass twice to the player inside the centre square and he switches play successfully.

- The Blue players are not allowed to enter the central are at any time.

- The Blue players switch positions with 4 of the Red players every 2-3 minutes.

Coaching Points

- The players should be constantly moving towards the available passing option.

- Emphasis the importance of quality in passing and turning.

- Once drill has been completed all players to complete Diamond Run number 2

5 Gate Possessions Drill (20 mins)

5 Gate Possession Game (Mike & Cocky)

Possession game - 6 v 6 + 5 gate goals

- Area as shown above

- 5 gate goals marked out around the square as detailed above

- To score a goal a pass must be played through the gate to a team mate - progression to dribble through a gate and then alternate.

- Sessions to have a 30 second rest every 3-4 minutes

- Tempo must be high and quality of passing good

- Players have a maximum 3 touches

- Once drill has been completed players to complete Diamond Run number 3

2 v 2 (+6) in box Transitions Drill (20 mins)

2 v 2 (+6) in box Transitions Drill (Myself)

- Area 20 x 20 yards as detailed above

- 2 v 2 inside the playing area

- 4 players for each team outside the area as detailed above

- Red team play up and down and Blue team play side to side

- Purpose of the drill is to score by playing a wall pass with a team mate on the outisde of the area.

- Once a wall pass has been made the outside player he must then change direction and aim to play to the outside player at the opposite end.

- Outside players can not play direct to each other. A pass must be played through the middle players.

- If the Blue team win the ball in the 2 v 2 then they aim to do the same and keep the ball with their outside team mates playing side to side.

- Players work for 2 minutes in the middle 2 v 2 and then rotate out with 2 team mates.

- Players on the outside have a maximum 2 touches.

- Each Diamond Run will be complete with a rest period inbetween each run

- 4 Diamond runs to be completed in total

- The set of 4 diamond runs will be completed after one of the ball drills (detailed previously)

Sets of Endurance Runs (Myself)

- Each Endurance Run will be complete with a rest period inbetween each run

- 3 Endurances runs are to A and back, B and back and C and back.

- When players reach A,B,C the following should be completed;

A - 20 press ups

B - 20 Sit ups

C - 20 squats

- The set of 3 endurance runs will be completed after one of the ball drills (detailed previously)
