Football/Soccer Session (Academy Sessions): ThunderStorm (A Lightning progression)

ThunderStorm (15 mins)

Organization:

• Large Goal & small goal
• 12 X 10 yd box 15 yds out from goal. 
• balls with players at cone 1

Instructions:

• 1: player passes ball in to 3, then provides as an option as a wall pass for 3.
  
• 2: once 3 touches ball, can enter box & must stay in box. Try to steal the ball & score on small goal.
• 3: Receive pass from #1, try to score on large goal. 
• 4: Protect the large goal. 
• Rotation: 1-2-3-4.
• If you miss your shot at 3, & get scored on at 4, you get caught in the tornado of 1+2. 
• If you can steal/score from 2, you escape the tornado & go back into the 1-2-3-4 rotation.

Coaching Points/Questions:

• Weight/Direction of 1st touch
• When to pass vs. dribble
• Shooting technique

Regressions/Progressions:

• R: if a player caught in the tornado can get a touch on the ball, they can rejoin the 1-2-3-4 rotation
• R: A player is only caught in the tornado for one rotation, then they rejoin the 1-2-3-4 rotation
• P: Use the team's best Goalkeeper as the full-time Goalkeeper. The rotation then becomes 1-2-3, if the player misses their goal from 3, they get caught in the tornado.
  
• P/R: Smaller/Larger box
• P: Player in #2 rotation can defend all the way to goal.
• P: If GK collects the ball, GK & #2 player play to the small goal.
