Screen 1 (35 mins)
Potential Theme/Length of game: Reduce Impact of Climate Change 15-30 minutes
Organization/Rules: ) two teams are playing a regular game of football
(4vs.4, 5vs.5 or more). Play for 5 minutes and then stop the game.
Now introduce the rule that 2 or more players stay outside the pitch. They can move
along the sidelines of the pitch and join the game at any point for 10 seconds to support
their team (pitch No.2). They can join them to help defend, attack, outnumber the other
team etc. After max. 10 seconds they need to leave the pitch. If they want they can
come back immediately, but need to leave again after 10 seconds. Play for 10 minutes
and switch players on the outside regularly.
Sample Discussion Questions: How did it feel to be on the field for 10 seconds to help
your team? Was 10 seconds enough to give sufficient help? How did you decide when to
join the game? Was it tiring or difficult to follow the game continuously? Why? How did
the players on the pitch deal with the new situation? Did it hit you by surprise when
somebody joined the game suddenly?
Do you know how climate change will impact the lives in our community in future and
where we might need short-term support in future to deal with natural disasters,
droughts, flooding? What can we do to reduce the impacts of climate change? How can
we adapt, raise awareness or install early warning system?
Variations: If 10 seconds is not enough time for the outside players you can increase it
to 20 or 30 seconds. You can introduce the rule that outside players can only come in when called by players who are on the pitch. Ask your players what other additional
rules they want to introduce? If desired, play again!
