Overloading wide areas (15 mins)

- Ensuring well timed and accurate passes are the focus of the exercise

- Once 10 recieves the ball, play final pass wide for a return into the box

- Wingers to invert with full backs maintaining width

Playing in behind from deep (15 mins)

Playing in behind the defence from deep

(Using 2 defenders for the practice marking 8 and 10)

- Objective is to expolit overloads (2v1) in wide areas by moving the ball into free space for wide players)

- Wingers start deep which will inturn pull full backs closer to close down

- Pattern sequence:

5 - 4 - 5 - 3 - 4 - 8 - 4 - (3 or 11) & cross

5 - 4 - 5 - 2 - 4 - 10 - 4 - (2 or 7) & cross

Once 8 recieves the ball, defenders push tight to squeeze their defensive line

- This allows space in behind for the full backs to overlap unopposed if winger is deep

Opposite CM's to make well timed runs into the box as well as ST

Practice is played left side and right side

Save Image: Football/Soccer Session Plan Drill (Colour): 8 and 10 deep as link up

8 and 10 deep as link up (15 mins)

8 and 10 dropping deep as link ups

Objective is to attract a defender to press, leaving space in behind to exploit

- Pattern of play sequence:

- 5 - 4 - 2 - 10 - 4 - (7 or 11) begin playing ball side and exploit space behind, progress to switching

- 5 - 4 - 3 - 8 - 4 - (11 or 7) begin playing ball side and exploit space behind, progress to switching

Once winger has the ball, number of options:

- Is near side CM supporting to recieve?

- Low cross into the box?

- Run deep and cross back post?

- Mention the crosses from Saturday were all too close and too kind for the keeper

- Crosses need to be difficult to defend (is the ball going to deflect off defender into goal, or does GK not want to attack the ball?)
