3 players 1 ball. As a group of 3 players try to pass the ball through as many gates as possible. Make gates in various sizes, directions, and colors. Gradually provide more challenges for the players. Start simple with basic passing and moving, then add the challenge of doing give-and-go’s.
•Can you get the ball back after you pass through?
•One point for pass through, Three points if you can do a give-and-go
•On the move or standing?
Possible Progressions:
- Time restriction to get to as many gates as possible
- Must be moving to receive a pass as it goes through the gate
- Have to go to different color gate before going back to same color
Coaching Points:
•Approach from an angle
•Pass then accelerate into space to eliminate a defender
•Return pass in front of runner

In a small field put gates at each end. Split the kids into two teams (or three even groups) and have each team on opposite ends of the field. The game is initiated by one team passing the ball into the second team. The team receiving the ball will send two players and the defending team will only send one player. At this point the three kids on the field will play 2v1. They can pass or dribble through the gate to score. Be sure to switch sides so that both teams get a chance to attack and defend.
•How can you eliminate the defender?
•Is this a good time to use a give-and-go?
•What if the defender cheats too much to cut off the pass?
Coaching Points:
•Approach from an angle
•Pass then accelerate into space to eliminate a defender
•Return pass in front of runner

Play 2v2 or 3v3 (four gates), but when the ball goes out, a goal is scored, or time goes to long – three new players for each team enter the field. Have the players initiate the game with a pass across to the other team.
•Are you in a good position to support the player with the ball?
•Was your pass in front of the runner or did he have to slow down?
•What can you do to eliminate the defender
•How can a give-and-go work in this situation?
Coaching Points:
•Approach from an angle
•Pass then accelerate into space to eliminate a defender
•Return pass in front of runner

Technical Activity (15 mins)
In a grid split the players into two groups. One group is inside the grid and the other group is spread around the outside of the grid. The players around the outside have a ball at their feet, and the inside players do not. For 60 seconds, the inside group checks to a player on the outside, receives a pass, and passes it back to the same person. Then they’ll find a new person on the outside to repeat the sequence. This continues for one minute. Switch the groups.
Techniques to work on:
•Right foot only two touch
•left foot only two touch
•receive with one foot pass with the other
•Give & Go (switch so the players inside have the ball for this one)
oCan you approach from an angle?
oAccelerate after your pass
oReturn the pass in front of the runner so they don’t have to slow down
