SAQ (15 mins)

SAQ with players to warm up

- left foot inside cone and right foot outside / swap feet / both feet inside cone

- alternate feet / backwards running / long strides

- turn and sprint / pass ball and return / relay race

Passing exercise (15 mins)

Passing movement

- Play to player 2

- Player 2 passes behind and makes the positve run ready to recieve from P3

- Player 1 passes to player 3

- Player 3 lays off player 2

Core aim is to knock the ball back, make a positive run in order to make a bypass run

Add conditions such as 1x touch passing and moving

Increase tempo

Add competitions

Passing Pattern (15 mins)

Passing Pattern

- Focus around multi-directional passing and moving.

- RB to LCB, LCB to CDM, CDM to RCB, RCB to LB

- Begin with players completing a burpee upon passing the ball, then following their pass.

- When following the pass, first touch to be taken out of the players feet and driven towards the next player.

- Continuous use of high tempo and game realism.

Switching Play Part 1 (10 mins)

Switching Play Part 1 (Unopposed)

14 players / 2 teams of 7

30 x 30 yard area

Objective:

- Each team has a ball, objective is to transfer through the box to end player passing through all players.

- Final passer changes place with end player. 2 touch.

Progression:

- Increase number of balls per team (up to 3)

Coaching Points:

- Use both feet.

- Body shape open. Look to pass forward if possible.

- Awareness. Scan all the time to avoid opposition

- Decision making at a fast pace

- Movement off the ball

Attack PHASE 1 (25 mins)

Phase 1: Long Ball

Teams will think we only have 1 style of play

Early start to play long

This will force the opposition deep and put us on the front foot straight away

Prepare for winning 2nd balls from defensive headers and playing direct from play

Play long ball from full back positions

How do the defenders deal with it? How will they react?

The objective is to see how the attackers manage the situation and how they capitalise on the defensive header

Attack PHASE 2 (25 mins)

Phase 2:

Maintaining width - Continuous crosses

Keep width when attacking

This can be done by switching play (on the floor to maintain tempo and control of the ball)

If the ball is played 40 yards in the air its a 50/50

Advantage needs to remain on our side

If winger in 4-3-3 inverts then it is important for the full back supporting maintains the width, even if they are not as high, they must remain wide to remain a threat

'10' must join as a ST at this time so that there is a double aerial threat

Overloading (20 mins)

Looking to unbalance the oppositions defence

Rotational movement from the front three

- This prevents the oppositions defence becoming comfortable and keeps them constantly guessing.

What if the opposition are defending well and preventing us?

Can the 7+11 move between the CB and FB creating a consideration for them whilst our 2+3 look to exploit the space on the outside holding the width of the attack.

Movement between the front 3

- Player that receives the ball, one comes short infront and the other runs inbehind. Defenders will be pulled out of position causing gaps in the defence.

What if the opposition are playing a high block?

Recognise when the opposition are playing a high block when in good possession. This is the key chance for the forwards to make runs in behind of the defence, exploit gaps in behind.

What if the opposition are playing a well organised low block?

Can the front 3 look to unbalance the oppositions defence by receving the ball infront of the back line.

- Players to recognise players moving out off position to force a gap for runners to exploit

- 3rd man runs from deep (e.g. 8 &10) to unbalance the back line.
