Dribbling Warm-up + SHARK (5 mins)

Organization:

15x15 area

All players with ball

Instructions:

Players dribble their ball using all parts of the foot

Coaching Points:

Keeping ball close

Head up

Spatial awareness

Progressions:

Just inside, outside

Add moves

SHARK - Players attempt to steal teammates balls as they aim to maintain possession of their own.

Dribbling Square with Gates (5 mins)

Organization: 30x30m grid

Instruction: Players dribble freely around the space. On Coaches call, players must dribble through the grid in the middle and perform a move or a change of direction (introduce various moves/change of direction) once they get through the middle they must look to dribble through a gate on the outside.

Progression: After dribbling through middle players must get to an empty gate and stand in the gate. Once a player is in that gate is closed. Players that do not have a gate must do some sort of technical skill. ie 10 juggles, 25 toe taps, etc. before going back in.

Dribbling and 1st Touch Square (15 mins)

Dribbling and 1st Touch Receiving Square

Set-up as shown

Player A and C start simultaneously by passing into central player.

Central players receive and pass into B and D respectively.

Players B and D receive and take their 1st touch into a dribble to A and C respectively.

Continue sequence as player follow their passes/dribbles.

Progressions:

1. Switch directions

2. Swap passing/dribbling sequences (passes are now dribbles, dribbles are now passes).

3. A passes to Central, Central dribbles to B, B dribbles half-way and passes to C. Continue sequence.

2. First Touch (when, where and how)

3. Dribbling techniques (small, explosive, running with the ball)

4. Awareness (head-up, eyes up, anticipation)

Dribbling Square (15 mins)

Dribbling Square Variations

Setup as shown

Player A, B, C, and D, dribble simultaneously toward central square. Big, quick touches to get there with small controlled touches on approach. As they approach square, perform a feint/turn/skill prior to turning and accelerating toward next cone. Continue sequence as shown.

Progressions:

1. Change direction of sequence

2. Variation in skills performed

3. Player A dribbles toward square and upon completion of feint dribbles across central square to C. Player C dribbles simultaneously and avoids Player A in central square to dribble to line A. Players B and D then proceed to dribble at the same time. Therefore A and C simultaneous, followed by B and D simultaneous.

Coaching Points:

1. Dribbling Technique (inside, outside, rolls, sole)

2. Awareness (head-up, eyes up, anticipation)

3. Change of Pace (slow controlled in tight spaces, bigger explosive with space)

Receiving Box (15 mins)

Receiving Box

Setup as shown.

Player A plays to Player B. Player A follows their pass to line B. Player B receives BEHIND the cone with an open body shape and takes their first touch with their back foot. Player B then plays into Player C, and follows their pass to line C. Repeat sequence.

Progressions:

1. Player A plays into Player B and follows their pass to line B. Player B receives BEHIND the cone with an open body shape and takes their first touch with their back foot, and proceeds to run with the ball to player C. Player C takes possession and passes to player D and follow their pass. Player D repeats player B's actions. Continue sequence. Switch to allow Players A and D to RWB.

2. Add obstacles for players to avoid with passes/dribbles (cones, poles, etc).

Coaching Points:

1. Receiving Technique (open body shape, first touch with back foot, anticipation of space)

2. Dribbling/RWB Technique (small, controlled touches in tight space, larger explosive touches in space. Inside, outside, rolls and sole of the foot).

3. Passing Technique (Weight, pace, and direction)
