Warm up (AC)

Led by Andy, a straight line RAMP warm-up will be sufficient, also the option to add some functional movements into the passing patterns to help prepare the players

Some Idea's include

R - Raise Heart Rate: this stage should be 5 mins of simple movements that serve no purpose other than raising the player's heart rate slightly and getting the blood flowing all over the body. Exercises that are ideal are as follows

  • Knee's up, Heels Up
  • 2 to the left, 2 to the right/ Side Shuffles
  • High Skips
  • Long Strides
A - Activate muscles that will be working: Here, you are doing some dynamic stretches (stretches that are performed while moving rather than standing still and stretching) as they are more relevant to what kind of movements the players will be doing in the session.
These kinds of stretches include;
  • Lunges
  • Squats
  • Russian Deadlifts
  • Quad Pulls/ Glute Pulls
M - Mobilise the joints that will be working: Here, we do some mobility work to loosen up any joints that will be under stress during the session. Exercises that fall into this category include:
  • Open/Close the gate (hips)
  • Corrioca (Lower Back)
  • Kick Variations (Side, High, Kick down the door) (Knees & Ankles)
P - Potentiate: This is a fancy word for blow them out their hole. This is where you build up the pace for you want to see them training at. Some coaches will get creative with reaction games and include footballs etc. You can find loads of those on youtube. The simplest ideas and ones i always use are;
  • 50/60/70's
  • 80/90/100's
  • Up, back and around the cone into a sprint
  • Start on the Stomach, Back, and one knee and up into a sprint
