Ball mastery (15 mins)

In pairs, player 1 dribbles through 5 gates and passes/dribbles back to player 2 who then repeats.

Make a competition, each player needs to go through 5 gates, 3 times. First team wins.

1. Right foot

2. Left foot

3. Outside only

4. Have to dribble through gate and turn back

Shielding Introduction (20 mins)

Batman

Each player has a ball on a cone, they must prevent the defender from hitting their soccer ball with the defenders ball. 

Progression

1. Defenders will now attempt to kick the ball off the cone, max 3 seconds per player.

2. Defender now switches after kicking ball off so game is continuous.

Coaching Points

  • Keep body between defender and ball
  • Feet wide apart
  • Low to ground
  • Arms out to keep player away
  • Looking at ball and player
