Dribble-Move-Score (15 mins)

Objective: Improve dribbling ability and close control by dribbling through cones, using all parts of the feet, and then going to goal or end-zone. Should see a change of pace when dribbling to goal or end-zone.

Organization: Split the 20W yd x 30L yd field in half and split the team into 2-4 groups. One half will dribble through cones and then dribble/shoot on goal. Other half will dribble through cones and then COP dribble to the end-zone. Rotate groups after a couple 1 minute rounds. Maximize touches.

Key Words: Dribble, look up, close control, COP, and shoot.

Guided Questions: 1) What parts of the foot can we use to dribble through the cones? 2) Should you keep the ball close to your feet or play the ball farther out in front of you? 3) How can you dribble to the end-zone or dribble to goal quickly?

Answers: 1) Inside, Outside, Sole, Laces and using BOTH feet. 2) Keep the ball close to your feet and under control. 3) Once you dribble past the last cone, change of pace to go to goal or to end-zone. Imagine a defender is chasing you to steal the ball back.

1v1 to Goal (15 mins)

Objective: To improve the players ability in both attacking and defending when in a 1v1 situation.

Organization: 10W yd x 15L yd field. Use both halves of the field if more players at practice. Try to keep lines short as possible to promote more playing time. Ball starts with one team. If a players scores, they stay on and become the new defender while a new attacking player joins the field. First to score wins their team a point. First to 5 points wins and then switch groups or sides.

Key Words: Dribble, shoot, Look up, COP, COD, take defender on

Guided Questions: 1) If you have the ball and are attacking, what are your options? 2) If defending, should you try to defender the player to win the ball or get in from of the goal to stop the shot? 3) Can you try moves when you have the ball to beat the defender and go to goal?

Answers: 1) Dribble under control to not lose the ball or dribble with COP and try a move to beat the defender and score. 2) Defend the player to try and win the ball. If you can defend the player and be in the way of the goal, even better. 3) Be creative and take a risk!

Notes: Promote the players to be creative and to take risks. This is a great time for them to attempt tricks or moves that they wouldn't do normally in a game. If they mess up, have them try it again even if the same outcome occurs. Build the confidence of the players on the ball as soon as possible.
