Receiving, Turnign and Attacking the area
Organisation
Same pitch layout as first exercise with 2 x 2 box marked at edge of the area central to goal
One player (Player 1) starts with back to goal. Player 2 feeds ball in, Player 1 needs to receive the ball, turn to goal and around the marked out box (simulate going past a defender) before getting shot away.
On whistle both players can start to run. Aim for Player 1 to get to shooting opportunity and get shot away before Player 2 chases him down.
Player 2 moves to become Player 1, Player 3 moves to Player 2 position, player 1 to back of line etc.
Progression
Introduce a defender to add pressure. Defender starts in coned area, can't come out until receiver has touched the ball. Once player has been the receiving / shooting player they become the defender.
Mechanics - Elements of RWB / Dribbling, Turning and Shooting will come in, but for purposes of this session based on past observations concentrate on RWB / Dribbling. Can change emphasis to be more on Turning / Shooting if rerun in other sessions.
RWB
1. Get ball out of feet.
2. Make contact with the laces
3. Head up
4. Get into running stride
5. Move quickly
Dribble
1. Keep ball close
2. Vary surfaces of the foot
3. Head Up
4. Change of pace
5. Change of direction
Receiver Considerations - Do they come to the ball to receive, receive on half turn etc
Considerations for GK - Do they come off line to close angle or stay back online?

Playing out from the back
Decision Making - Which pass to play. Positioning at goal kick etc
Positioning at goal kick etc
Players split 6 (5 and 1 x GK) v 3
3 x attackers start on half way
GK starts with ball - as soon as GK plays the ball the attackers can advance
defendign team need to play the ball out from the back and through one of the three marked gates on the half way line
Encourage defenders to coem deep and wide to give options.
Central midfielder comes deep and central to provide an option.
Decision making
GK - does the pass go out to wide defenders of to midfield player?
Defenders - do they look down the line for wide player? or pass into midfielder (can they assess where the attackers are and pick the most appropriate pass)
If attackers fully close down the other defenders can they go with a long pass - decision making.
