Grade 12 Warm-Up (10 mins)

THE SESSION: U12 Warm Up

 

Set up:

- 3 lines of cones spaced 10 metres apart

- Split players into even groups (including GK's)

- The first player of each group moves forward

- The next player in line goes once first player reaches middle cone

- 2 reps of each Players will perform the following exercises:

- Jog through up and back

- Open gate (10m) into close gate (10m)

- Side step (10m) then swap direction halfway

- Carioca (10m) then swap direction halfway

- Alternating 1 leg skip (20m)

- Jog into diaganol shuffle at half way

- Quick sharp small steps forward then back to line and then forward 75% run to end

- Jog forward (10m) then sprint at halfway (10m)

- Stationary start 20m sprint

**U12 lunges, hamstring raises and squats not required**

 

Find partner and space:

- Arm on shoulder and swing leg across switch leg after 20 seconds

- Arm on shoulder and perform hamstring kicks

 

Players should now complete any other relevant stretches

- advise them on these to ensure appropriate technique.

Try to make it a dynamic stretch

Possession (15 mins)

THE SESSION: 4v4 (3v3) quick transitions

 

Set Up:

- 4 x 3mins with 1min rest between

- Work off 6x8 per defender, with a half way line

- Attacking team can only score if all players are in the attacking half

- If defending team wins the ball back the aim is to flood the pitch and get forward

 

KEY MESSAGES/POINTS:

- Flood the pitch

- Move to recieve

- Break the line

 

PROGRESSIONS:

- Limit touches to 2/3 max

- Extra point if team can score in 4 or less passes

- Extra point if attacking team can score before all defenders are back in defensive half

Movement Patterns with Finishing (30 mins)

THE SESSION:

- Player 1 passes to Player 2 who has moved away from cone (defender)

- Player 2 passes into run of winger (Player 3) coming in off the line

- Winger drives forward with the ball and then passes into back foot of the striker (Player 4)

- Striker to control and finish

 PROGRESSION:

- 1st time finish

- Different movement patterns example - Player 3 stays wide and crosses

- Work both sides

KEY POINTS:

- Movement to receive

- Quality Pass

- Back foot receive

- Positive 1st touch

- Be clinical

Slice of the Game (35 mins)

Set Up: Half a field and 2 full size goals

 

Organization: Using a half pitch the game comprises of 2 equal teams + Keepers + 2 byline players each side

Play begins from one of the keepers. The object of the game is for teams to score from a pass from one of their byline players. This is the only way goals can be scored. Byline players have 2 touches.

 

Progression 1: Byline players have a 1 touch restriction

 

Progression 2: Once a player passes out to an end player they must replace that player with the end player coming into the pitch to continue play.

 

Coaching points:

1. Build up play (create openings)

2. Movement (checking runs/creating space)

3. Timing of runs (meeting the ball, decoy runs, follow up runs)

4. Shooting technique (appropriate to pass)

5. Physciality (performing technique under pressure)
