Central 1
Essence:
This first exercise is to introduce the Kids to the basis of proper sliding on the forehand. In this exercise the one-handed sliding tip-in is taught.
Structure:
Starting at the red double cone, the players run in a curve towards the goal. When the player passes the yellow cone the trainer rolls a ball towards the white cone behind the baseline (which serves as orientation point). The player dives and deflects this ball while sliding on his belly (so not chest!). After this, the next player starts.
Pointers:
1. Run towards the goal in high speed
2. The last step is made with the left foot. This stp should be big, since a big step will lower your centre of gravity, which makes sliding less painful and safer.
3. Keep your right hand in front of you, on the ground, to break the fall and carry your weight.
4. Keep your chest and head of the ground.
5. Keep your eyes on the ball, at all times.
6. Hold stick still during deflection.
Differentiation
- When the Kids have trouble with their footwork, let them slide on their shinpads and knees.
- When their timining is off, change the position of the yellow cone.
± Adjust the speed of the rolled ball to increase or decrease the difficulty of this exercise. However, always roll towards the white cone which serves as orientation point.
