Drill 1.0 (5 mins)
Using the last third of the pitch players are split into two groups, right & left and then line up at the two points 1. out in a wide area by the goal line 2. outside the 18 yard box. The exercise starts from one side with the striker (placed at point 2) checks their run away to create space in front of the defender to attack. When the striker checks their run, this is the trigger for the wide player to dribble in behind the defender (full back) and cut the ball back to the striker running into the box. the striker shoots with the inside of the front foot. The exercise is then repeated the opposite side.
Rotation: 1-2-3/A-B-C.
Coaching points:
- Disguise 1st run (pull defender away)
- Timing of run (meet the pass)
- Stand over ball (don't lean back)
- Execute shot with inside of the front foot (lock ankle)
