Setup: 3 playing areas. Large box, Thin Channel, Wide Areas
Game: Blue are assigned positions (6, 7, 11, 8, 10, 9). The 9 must stay out of gap area and check into it as needed. Play begins with 5v5 in large center box.
When Blue wins the ball, they must organize quickly and 7/11 get to wide area. Can hit 9, 10, 7, or 11 to get out of box and look to make final pass and hit seams
Progression: Allow red defenders to have (1, 2, or 3) defenders leave yellow box to defend. Blue plays 2 touch.
Scoring: Red get 7 passes in yellow box = 1pt; blue scores on big goal after getting ball to wide area = 1pt.
Coaching:
- 9 collects ball and looks for combo and run behind defenders. If a player dribbles into 9 spots, they will make a run into a wider area.
- Are we making near, edge, and far runs?
- Be diligent that no goal counts unless it gets to wide areas
- Cut down dribbling to wide areas by forcing 2 touch play
- 9 moves side to side in gap, waiting for opportunity to have ball played in (when are we about to win it?)
- 7 and 11 must sprint to wide areas to counter quickly.
