Method:
Three players and 1 goalkeeper. 3 footballs
· Player 1 crosses the ball to Keeper placed on six yard line. Keeper gathers coming
forward and accurately throws back to player 1
· Player 2 repeats full process on the other side.
· Player 3 then rolls a ball to any location along the cone line located at 11 metres. Keeper must react at speed to the rolled ball, slide and gather at pace before or as ball ball crosses the 11m cone line.
Optional extra:
1. GK may return the gathered ball after action 3 and face an immediate shot going backwards from player 3.
2. GK receives pass from server 3 and controls and clears to target 30-40m away.
Coaching Points:
· This exercise combines handling, distribution and reactions to through balls or loose balls.
· Am I switched on?
. Assess, Assess and Commit to the cross. Take a split second to judge the ball flight. Is my timing right or do I need to re-adjust? Am I negotiating traffic with other players? Call early for the ball and fully commit to gathering the cross.
