Game

I will be using this part of the session to analyse the player's current understanding and ability when in possession to score a goal and how they have done so successfully

Part 1 (10 mins)

Phase of play 1

4 v 6 (focus on in possession)

The CB; player inside of the grid will make the ball live by playing it to a centre midfielder

The players will be given a few minutes to use their own strategies to break down the defensive unit to score a goal

In order for the red team to score a goal a pass must be played through into the end zone

No defending players apart from the goalkeeper are allowed in the end zone meaning that it will be a 1 v 1 situation when the ball is played to a runner into the area

Coaching points:

- Movement of players off the ball to create space to be exploited - Pass appreciation when playing a through ball in on goal - Discipline of when to attack the goal - Using body to disguise runs forwards

Part 2 (15 mins)

Phase of play 2

4 v 7 (focus on in possession)

The end zone now has been removed to allow more mistakes to be made for players to learn from

As soon as this second phase of play is moved onto, a second demonstration will be used to show a method of how they can break down the opposition; straight runs and diagonal runs will be used now to progress them

Coaching points:

- Movement on the ball to create space - Triggers for balls to be played and delayed -

Part 3 (20 mins)

Phase of play 3

6 v 7 (focus on both teams)

In order to make the session more balanced for both teams to keep concentration and effort levels high, the blues will now have an objective to win the ball and then play the ball to the nurtural target player for a point

This just gives the practice some more realism as the reds will have to win possession to now break down the defensive unit

More players have also been added to the practice to make the practice more realistic

Coaching points:

- Awareness of triggers - Discipline when in possession - Positioning of the body when exploiting into space

Coaching interventions will be used if the topic of the session is not being followed so that the players keep a concentration on the practice's needs

Leadership must be taken from a number of players to ensure that the quality and intensity of the sessions is at a high standard
